Curam, the irish word for care will see a new dedicated state of the art care facility at Carlow District Holiday, located in the heart of Carlow.
Curam will be within the Health Services Hospital Campus, occupying a wing of the existing District Hospital. It's location within this key site has been facilitated by the H.S.E who have been a co-operative and dynamic development partner in this venture.
The Curam Palliative Care Centre is the result of the work of the County Carlow Hospice Group who have been tirelessly campaigning and fundraising since 2006 to provide this much needed facility for County Carlow.
The facility will consist of 4 palliative care suites together with an oratory, family room, reception, administration and associated office and clinical accommodation. The administration and functionality of Curam will be integrated within the exisiting hospital facility providing a comprehensive and flexible range of care.
In addition to the clinical care spaces outlined, Curam also provides a series of integrated protected external spaces associated with each care suite resulting in an innovative and contemporary approach to the provision of this much needed facility.
Completion of this project is anticipated in October 2017.
Carlow County Hospice Development Group commenced fund-raising activities in response to the initial efforts of founding member Ms Anne C Byrne to highlight and address the requirement for this much needed care centre in Carlow town.
In responding to the call to action a number of eminent, resourceful and highly committed local individuals joined and assisted this fledgling group in their ambitious undertaking.
The Curam centre has been arrived at following close co-operation between the Hospice Committee, Mr Ciaran Ruane, HSE South Estates Department and the Director of Nursing at the District Hospital and her team
